Time Magazine names Lady Gaga one of Top 100 fashion icons

We have Time, a once-popular newsmagazine, to thank for completely changing the definition of “fashion.” The magazine has now listed Lady Gaga in its “All-Time Top 100 Fashion Icons.”
Fashion icons are typically those people who dress classy or who others would want to dress like.
We don’t know you’re style, but we can assume you wouldn’t want to wear a meat dress or have an outfit made out of Kermit the Frog dolls.
So, what was Time’s reason for naming her a fashion icon? “Lady Gaga is just as notorious for her outrageous style as she is for her pop hits,” the website says, “Gaga has [even] partnered with brands like Giorgio Armani on tour outfits.”
Next time you don’t feel like picking out an outfit in the morning – just grab some duck tape and a dish towel. We’re sure you’ll create something equivalent to one of Gaga’s famous looks and you too could be a “fashion icon.”

Lady GaGa 'Haunted By The Devil' In Her Sleep

Los Angeles, Feb 21 (IANS) Pop star Lady Gaga believes the devil keeps haunting her during sleep.
The 25-year-old has enlisted the help of Michael Jackson's former doctor and spiritual adviser Deepak Chopra to try to ward off evil spirits from her "terrifying" dreams.
Chopra helped the late Jackson achieve better sleep and breathing patterns with counselling sessions.
"I have this recurring dream where there's a phantom in my home and he takes me into a room where there's a blonde girl with ropes tied to her limbs pulling her apart," showbizspy.com quoted Gaga as saying.
"I told Deepak the dream was so terrifying I thought somehow that a devil force was trying to take hold of me," she added.
Gaga has also asked Chopra to help her achieve her dreams of "going into a coma" and levitating.
"I want to go into a coma and levitate. I am a very spiritual person. Deepak is the most influential person in my life. His message is a true inspiration. He helps me to reach inside my spirituality and we take it to the next level," she said.

Cambridge University student allowed to write dissertation on Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is the latest quirky dissertation topic at Cambridge University after a student was given the go-ahead to write about her place in pop art history.
Third-year undergraduate Amrou Al-Kadhi, who studies history of art at Corpus Christi college, has just had his project proposal on Lady Gaga accepted by the university authorities.
The 21-year-old has been a fan of Lady Gaga since she shot to fame in 2008 with her Grammy-winning dance-pop album The Fame, and saw her in concert at the O2 two years ago.
Gaga - whose real name is Stefani Germanotta - has since become the world's leading recording artist with 65 million records sold to date.
He decided to do the project after bringing up the artist's videos in classes for his Modernism, Postmodernism and After course and receiving good feedback.
However when he submitted his dissertation proposal last year it took aspiring actor Mr Al-Kadhi a few meetings to win permission from the department.
Mr Al-Kadhi praised the history of art department for defying Cambridge's old-fashioned reputation.
He said: "It's a credit to them that they have accepted this."
A Cambridge spokesman said: "The department does not discourage students from writing on living artists, providing their approach is both critical and historical."
The dissertation, which has to be handed in in April, will make up almost a third of his final year mark.

Lady Gaga in duet with ... Harvard?

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Pop culture and higher education are once again merging -- and hopefully this time it will go better than Snooki's ill-conceived visit to Rutgers.
Lady Gaga is teaming up with Harvard University to form the Born This Way Foundation, a non-profit, charitable organization.
Its purpose: to "explore the best ways to reach youth and create a new culture of kindness, bravery, acceptance and empowerment" with a focus on issues such as "self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development and advocacy," according to a Harvard release.
The foundation -- which is named after the singer's most recent album and is a collaboration between Gaga, the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the California Endowment, Harvard'sBerkman Center for Internet & Society and the Harvard Graduate School of Education -- will officially launch with a February 29 event at Harvard's Sanders Theatre. The singer and her mother,Cynthia Germanotta, will be on hand for the reveal.
"My daughter's foundation was born out of her passion to create a better world where people are kinder and nicer to one another and are accepted for who they are, regardless of how different they may be," Cynthia Germanotta said of the new organization.
"She has experienced many of the struggles that our youth encounter today, and identifies with the lasting effects they can have without proper support. Together, we look forward to creating a new movement that will engage and empower youth and accept them as valuable members of our society."
Gaga, a frequent champion of gay rights, was honored earlier this week with a GLAAD Media Awards nomination, in the Outstanding Music Artist category.

Lady Gaga hair loss admission after years of bleach

The internationally famous pop star Lady Gaga has admitted that years of bleaching and dyeing her locks has caused her to suffer hair loss.
Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, is believed to be a natural brunette. However, in order to keep up her controversial, creative and experimental image, the pop star has dyed and bleached her hair every colour under the sun.
According to an interview in People magazine, Gaga’s passion for colour is taking its toll on her hair. She reportedly said that she had to “get a chemical haircut because my blonde hair is falling out.”
Hair can withstand only so much, and can begin to break, become brittle and even fall out if it is subjected to excessive chemical treatments or heat. This kind of hair loss is only temporary, but the hair and hair follicles will require a decent amount of time in which to recover.
Whilst the hair rejuvenates itself, most people with this kind of hair loss choose to cover or disguise the affected areas with hair replacement solutions such as human hair wigs or natural, super-fine hair extensions.

Lady Gaga, Rihanna Look-A-Likes Pop Up in 'Batman' Comic

"Batman Incorporated: Leviathan Strikes!" has some guest-stars from the pop charts.

As Stephanie Brown, Batgirl herself, sets out on an undercover mission at all-girls spy school St. Hadrian's, her instructors bear striking resemblances to a trio of pop favorites: Katy Perry, Rihanna and a gun-toting Lady Gaga, who blasts a photo of Superman.

And the bespectacled headmistress? Looks like a certain Material Girl.

The one-shot issue, which wraps up writer Grant Morrison's "Batman Incorporated" storyline, is out now.

It isn't the first time one of pop's leading ladies has appeared in the funny pages: Gaga made an official appearance in the cartoon world in Bluewater Production's "Fame: Lady Gaga" comic book in 2010. With Perry's Hollywood career heating up and Rihanna set for a role in next year's "Battleship," perhaps a big-screen "Batman" cameo could be next. There's still time, Chris Nolan.

Lady Gaga 'So Happy' About Oscar Recognition

Pop star's duet with Elton John, 'Hello Hello,' is on short list for Best Original Song.

How does Lady Gaga feel about making the short list for the Best Original Song race at the Oscars? Well, she's pretty excited.
"Just heard my duet 'Hello, Hello' with Elton [John] is up for nomination at the Oscars! 'Gnomeo & Juliet' is such a beautiful film," she wrote on Twitter. "I'm so happy!!"

On Monday, it was announced that the Gaga/Elton duet is one of the 39 tracks vying for a nomination. will.i.am's "Rio" track, "Hot Wings," Mary J. Blige's "The Living Proof" from "The Help," and Zooey Deschanel's "Winnie the Pooh" track, "So Long," along with multiple tracks from "The Muppets," are also in the running. The final nominations will be announced January 24, and the awards show is slated to take place February 26 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Gaga is celebrating her latest achievement in Japan, where she will spend the holidays. "Well, I'll be in Japan right up until Christmas Day," she recently told MTV News. "So I'll be eating with all my Japanese Little Monsters. I like shabu shabu [a type of Japanese hotpot]."

Since touching down, Mother Monster has been keeping her fans up-to-date on what she's been up to on Twitter. "Sipping tea in Japan with Haus. Feeling so grateful," she wrote. "We sold about 1 million albums a month worldwide since the release of BORN THIS WAY."

The busy holiday season caps off an even busier year for Lady Gaga, who happened to be MTV News' Top Newsmaker of 2011. She tirelessly released singles, videos, personas and a chart-topping album (Born This Way) and scooped up awards at seemingly every show from the Grammys to the VMAs. She was also #5 on our list of Best Artists of 2011, and her disco empowerment track "Born This Way" snagged the #5 spot on theBest Songs of 2011 list as well.

Lady Gaga saluted by the Trevor Project with stars and songs

If Lady Gaga knows anything, it's theatricality -- so it's more than fitting that the Trevor Project'sannual holiday gala, Trevor Live, Sunday night was a wintry song and dance in celebration of the pop star's efforts to stop bullying.
The Hollywood Palladium housed the shindig, under the creative direction of "Rock of Ages" helmer Adam Shankman, and featured a huge roster of celebrity performers and "Parks and Recreations" star Amy Poehler as emcee.
Leading up to Gaga's big moment was "Glee" star Darren Criss pulling out a show-stopping rendition of Tom Jones' "It's Not Unusual." Leann Rimes later performed a ballad from her own catalog, Queen Latifah offered up "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and engaged duo Neil Patrick Harris and chef David Burtka sang "You're The Top."
Plenty of exciting faces pleased the Ministry, including our table buddy Dianna Agron in vintage Chloe, as well as Amber Heard, Zachary Quinto, Michelle Pfieffer and Zac Efron.
The Trevor Project provides telephone hotline and online support for LGBT and questioning youth in their struggles with bullying, family acceptance and more -- and on Sunday bold names helped tell the stories of several youths whose lives were affected by the Trevor team.
Pehaps the evening's most poignant tale was that of 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer, who took his own life in September. Jamey's sister and parents were on hand to present to Gaga, assisted by "Glee"'s Chris Colfer. Gaga did not shy from the very recent tragedy -- expressing her disbelief thatJamey's school has yet to address the bullying he cited as cause for suicide.
"As much as we can, come together, as it will take a village and an army -- countries and continents, too -- to make bullying a hate crime," Gaga said to a standing ovation.
Other highlights included the first "Magic Mike" pairing on record -- Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomertook to the stage and joked about their past few months playing strippers for Steven Soderbergh.
And let us not forget about pot jokester Miley Cyrus, who belted her song "The Climb" with perfect pitch, subtlety and without any additional comment. Well played.

Will Lady Gaga Be as Successful as Michael Jackson?

Lady Gaga continues to reach magnificent heights in the music business. Known for her catchy pop songs and outrageous outfits, the pop icon can't help but think how long this magical journey will last.
After all, music is cyclical. Just ask Madonna, who Gaga is often compared to. In fact, some people believe that Gaga has completely ripped off the Material Girl's, well, material.
The song "Born This Way" sounds very similar to Madonna's "Express Yourself." However, Lady Gaga recently took offense to the accusation, saying it was retarded. "If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression. It's the same one that's been in disco music for the last 50 years," said Gaga via Oh No They Didn't. "Just because I'm the first f**king artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn't mean I'm a plagiarist, it means I'm f**king smart. Sorry."
Gaga's Future?
Will Lady Gaga see Madonna-like results to which her music and act become antiquated where she must reinvent herself? The difference between Gaga and Madonna is her fan base - the little monsters. As good and controversial as Madonna was, she did not have the legions of fans that Gaga has.
Gaga could potentially see the same type of success that Michael Jackson saw, who sold around 390 million albums. Musicians like Michael Jackson stay in the limelight because of the musical brand they created. It's the music but so much more of the success comes from the stage shows, the lifestyle and the continuous hits.
Consistency
Lady Gaga has the ability to stay consistent with her albums and lifestyle. Michael Jackson did the same and as weird as he was, when the King of Pop passed away, the positive response and media coverage were unlike anything anyone's ever seen.
Obstacle
The biggest obstacle standing in Gaga's way is the cyclical musical landscape. If Lady Gaga's music can stand the transition through whatever music genre takes the lead, she'll ride out the changes until the next pop revolution comes. Her little monsters can help contribute to that feat.
Let's just hope Lady Gaga can stand the test of time. Otherwise, 20 years from now, there will be another Madonna rip off being compared to Lady Gaga.

Early life Lady Gaga 1986–2004

Lady Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta on March 28, 1986, in New York City.[6] Brought up in the family home in Manhattan's Upper West Side,[7] Gaga is of the Italian[8] and more distant French-Canadian descent[9] of her parents Cynthia (née Bissett) and Joseph Germanotta, an internet entrepreneur.[10] The elder of two children, Gaga has one sister, Natali, who was born in 1992.[11] Gaga has stressed that – despite her seemingly affluent upbringing – she did not come from a wealthy background, stating that her parents "both came from lower-class families, so we've worked for everything—my mother worked eight to eight out of the house, in telecommunications, and so did my father."[12]
From the age of 11, Gaga – who was raised Roman Catholic[13] – attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart, a private all-girls Roman Catholic school on Manhattan's Upper East Side.[14][15] She described her academic life in high school as "very dedicated, very studious, very disciplined" but also "a bit insecure" as she told in an interview, "I used to get made fun of for being either too provocative or too eccentric, so I started to tone it down. I didn't fit in, and I felt like a freak."[16][17] Acquaintances dispute that she did not fit in at school. "She had a core group of friends; she was a good student. She liked boys a lot, but singing was No. 1," recalled a former high school classmate.[18]
A keen musician, left-handed Gaga began playing the piano at the age of 4, went on to write her first piano ballad at 13, and started to perform at open mike nights by the age of 14.[19][20] Her passion for musical theatre brought her lead roles in high school productions, including Adelaide in Guys and Dolls and Philia in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.[21] She also appeared in a very small role as a mischievous classmate in the television drama series The Sopranos in a 2001 episode titled "The Telltale Moozadell"[22] in addition to unsuccessfully auditioning for parts in New York shows.[7] When her time at the Convent of the Sacred Heart came to an end, her mother encouraged her to apply for the Collaborative Arts Project 21 (CAP21), a musical theatre training conservatory at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.[7] After gaining early admission at 17, she eventually lived in an NYU dorm on 11th Street.
Being part of such a prestigious performance course, she sharpened her songwriting skills while composing essays and analytical papers on art, religion, social issues and politics[20][23] including a thesis on pop artists Spencer Tunick and Damien Hirst; such research prepared her for her future career focus in "music, art, sex and celebrity."[24] Gaga also tried out for and won auditions while at CAP21,[7] including the part of an unsuspecting diner customer where MTV's Boiling Points – a prank reality television show – was being filmed.[25] Notwithstanding these achievements, Gaga felt that she was more creative than some of her classmates. "Once you learn how to think about art, you can teach yourself," she said. By the second semester of her sophomore year, she withdrew from the school to focus on her musical career.[26] Her father agreed to pay her rent for a year, on the condition that she re-enroll at Tisch if unsuccessful. "I left my entire family, got the cheapest apartment I could find, and ate shit until somebody would listen," she remembers.[21]
