Go Gaga for this Lady

FIVE-time Grammy Award winner Lady Gaga is set to make a return to the stage, with her Born This Way Ball tour.

Gaga will perform songs from her latest album Born This Way, as well as music from both The Fame and The Fame Monster.

The Born This Way Ball, produced globally by Live Nation, will begin on April 27 in Seoul, South Korea and will travel the globe, including cities that Gaga has never played.

Lady Gaga's last tour - The Monster Ball - captivated audiences around the globe, receiving rave reviews in every city.

The Sun called it "the best live show you will see this year" and the Pollstar Concert Industry Awards named it the Major Tour of the Year.
"The Haus of Gaga and I have worked for months conceiving a spectacular stage," said Mother Monster.

"The Born This Way Ball is an electro-metal pop-opera; the tale of the beginning, the genesis of the Kingdom of Fame.

"How we were birthed and how we will die celebrating."
The Born This Way Ball will be Lady Gaga's first tour since the release of her album Born This Way, which has sold nearly six million copies worldwide since its release in May last year.

The album is the follow up to back-to-back Grammy Award-winning albums, 2009's The Fame Monster, and 2008's The Fame.
Combined, The Fame and The Fame Monster have sold 15 million albums worldwide, while Lady Gaga's hit singles have combined sales of more than 65 million worldwide.

Gaga was named Forbes' Most Powerful Woman in the World 2011 and was included in the annual "The 2010 Time 100" list of the most influential people in the world.

With more than 2.2 billion combined views of all her videos online, Lady Gaga is one of the biggest living people on Facebook, with more than 47 million 'likes'.

She is number one on Twitter, with nearly 19 million followers.
Lady Gaga is the only artist in the digital era to top the five million sales mark with her first two hits.

Tickets for The Born This Way Ball go on sale for Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Auckland from Friday at 9am sharp, at livenation.com.au.

Tickets to all Australian shows are available through ticketek.com.au 132 849.
Lady Gaga will perform at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on June 13.

Kelly Osbourne Blasts Lady GaGa Fans For Vile Twitter Abuse

Kelly Osbourne has hit back at the Lady GaGa fans who bombarded her with abuse after a Grammy comment.
Osbourne had called the 'Judas' singer "disrespectful" for snubbing the red carpet last Sunday (February 12), prompting an onslaught of angry Twitter messages from her so-called Little Monsters.
She had said: "Being part of the music industry is walking the red carpet. You say hello to your fans and you give back to those reporters and those people who supported you. And when you go to an awards show and you don’t walk the red carpet, I find that disrespectful."
After coming under fire from the popstar's supporters, she wrote: "I have been told to die, suck d**k, get raped & that i look like i have aids by @ladygaga fans no wonder they get called bullies. (sic)"
The Fashion Police host then reminded her followers that she is a fan of GaGa, saying: "I love [her] I’m a huge fan she is amazing… i just gave one opinion and people went nuts!
"I don’t label [Gaga's] entire fan base as bullies because i know they are not but some really are giving you guys a bad rep!”
She concluded: "@ladygaga really has created monsters. w/ every nasty unjustified tweet u send me u shame your queen. hate [is] not what @ladygaga is about!"

Lady Gaga Beats Adele In Virgin Awards Fightback Following Grammy Bust

Lady Gaga has cleaned up in this year's Virgin Media Music, awards getting some consolation after being snubbed by the Grammys.
Gaga failed to win a Grammy, losing out in the categories she was nominated in, largely to Adele. Here she won the awards of Best Album, Best Female, Best Track, Best Video and Hottest Female.
The singer's album 'Born This Way' was propelled into first place by her army of 'monsters' giving her 87.1% of the vote. Adele's all conquering, Grammy award winning album '21' was left behind in second place with just 4.94% of the overall vote.
This could have had something to do with Lady Gaga's 19million followers on twitter - Adele has just over 4million.
Virgin Media editor-in-chief of digital entertainment Nick Forward said, "The shock result for me was Lady GaGa beating Adele to win 'Best Album'. Adele's 21 has spent a record breaking 18 consecutive weeks at number one, so for Lady GaGa to swoop in and win this award was a huge surprise."
Adding, "It just demonstrates the incredible power of her fan base. The results are never quite as we predict but at the end of the day, with over 1.5 million voters, these results really do reflect the voice of the public."
The 'Born This Way' single was also voted Best Track and the Best Video ahead of Katy Perry's 'Firework'
The pop queens duked it out again in the closely fought Best Female battle with Gaga and Katy receiving 30.63% and 30.29% of the vote respectively.
Hottest Female was also awarded to the maverick singer.
Elsewhere, there were a few surprises. Manchester duo Hurts won Best Group, Take That won Best Live Act and pop stalwart Robbie Williams was victorious as Hottest Male.
Despite being in hospital for much of the year, George Michael was awarded Best Male and Sir Cliff Richard won Legend of the Year.
Jessie J was voted Newcomer of the Year

Cambridge University student allowed to write dissertation on Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is the latest quirky dissertation topic at Cambridge University after a student was given the go-ahead to write about her place in pop art history.
Third-year undergraduate Amrou Al-Kadhi, who studies history of art at Corpus Christi college, has just had his project proposal on Lady Gaga accepted by the university authorities.
The 21-year-old has been a fan of Lady Gaga since she shot to fame in 2008 with her Grammy-winning dance-pop album The Fame, and saw her in concert at the O2 two years ago.
Gaga - whose real name is Stefani Germanotta - has since become the world's leading recording artist with 65 million records sold to date.
He decided to do the project after bringing up the artist's videos in classes for his Modernism, Postmodernism and After course and receiving good feedback.
However when he submitted his dissertation proposal last year it took aspiring actor Mr Al-Kadhi a few meetings to win permission from the department.
Mr Al-Kadhi praised the history of art department for defying Cambridge's old-fashioned reputation.
He said: "It's a credit to them that they have accepted this."
A Cambridge spokesman said: "The department does not discourage students from writing on living artists, providing their approach is both critical and historical."
The dissertation, which has to be handed in in April, will make up almost a third of his final year mark.

Lady Gaga’s Parents to Open Joanne Trattoria

A Low-Key Spot With a High-Wattage Connection

THE women made a pilgrimage to West 68th Street, 450 miles from home, squinting in the rain on Monday as they peered through the restaurant’s front windows. The place was closed, they were told.
Not a problem, they said. They had come only to glimpse the Mother Gaga.
“That guy’s so lucky,” said Michele Munnery, 21, visiting with two friends from Cayuga, Ontario, as she watched a man work behind the bar. “I’m nervous just standing out here.”
Next Wednesday, in a modest space off Columbus Avenue, Joseph and Cynthia Germanotta plan to open Joanne Trattoria, an Italian restaurant with a well-stocked front bar, a cozy back patio and seating for about 70 people. The venture has been both bolstered and complicated by a simple fact: the Germanottas’ daughter Stefani, better known as Lady Gaga, is perhaps the most famous woman in the world.
“She just generates a lot of sizzle,” Mr. Germanotta said of his older daughter, who has worn a dress made of meat and once arrived at the Grammy Awards inside a giant egg.
For now, the owners seem suspended between embracing the attention and distancing themselves from it. Lady Gaga’s few mentions of the restaurant and her appearance at a party there on New Year’s Eve have generated buzz that top chefs could only hope to attract. Art Smith, the chef and a partner at Joanne, met her at a taping of Oprah Winfrey’s show. (Mr. Smith was Ms. Winfrey’s personal chef for many years.)
Yet Lady Gaga’s celebrity threatens to compromise the low-key tenor of the restaurant, which is billed as a casual neighborhood Italian spot, like its predecessor, Vince & Eddie’s. If the singer’s followers flock to Joanne, what will matter more: the chicken scarpariello or the woman with the egg costume?
“One tweet,” Ms. Germanotta said, her blue eyes widening, “and it’s over.”
In an ABC News interview with Katie Couric in November, Lady Gaga said, “My dad and I opened up a restaurant together.” She recalled watching him raise the awning on 68th Street, blocks from where she was raised, and naming the place for his sister, who died of lupus at age 19. Lady Gaga teared up. “That’s wealth,” she said, placing her hand over her heart. “That’s the dream.”
In fact, Lady Gaga is not an owner, and Mr. Germanotta said the family could have afforded to open even without his daughter’s success.
The fare will be Southern Italian, Ms. Germanotta said, in the sense that Mr. Smith is Southern and the Germanottas are Italian. Papa G’s chicken, named for Mr. Germanotta, will most likely be offered. So will an osso buco inspired by his sister, and Cynthia’s salad, after Ms. Germanotta. Mr. Smith has been given free rein to offer a “Southern Sunday” menu each week. Entrees will cost about $25 to $30, Mr. Germanotta said.
Renderings of the Tuscan countryside adorn the walls. Near the fireplace at the entrance, family photos hang above a front booth. But the Germanottas said they were unsure whether to include a picture of their famous daughter. Perhaps, Ms. Germanotta mused, they could find an older shot in which the singer is recognizable only up close.
Mr. Germanotta agreed. “If they’re expecting to come in here and see Grammys and pictures and stuff like that, it’s not going to happen,” he said.
Still, at least one person — besides the three women from Ontario out front, who later searched beneath a parked Ford for any scrap of Gaga detritus — seemed eager for the star’s occasional appearance: the chef, Mr. Smith. If, of course, she could squeeze in a visit.
“We have to share her,” he said. “Just like everybody else.”

Lady Gaga Nominated For Grammy Nominees 2012

Lady Gaga earns three nominations, including Album of the Year for "Born This Way"

One of the biggest pop stars in the world, Lady Gaga, sings about her "Nebraska guy" in one of her biggest songs. But another Nebraska guy is also getting credit for the song.

On the radio and on iPods everywhere, Lady Gaga's song "You and I" still gets a lot of play. Her voice track for the song was recorded in Omaha, and the guy who runs the studio has been nominated, along with the music superstar, for a Grammy.

Tom Ware, of Ware House Productions, runs one of the most acoustically perfect studios in the world. Back in March, when Lady Gaga was in town for show at the CenturyLink Center, she recorded the vocal track for the song.

"It was one of those moments. It was all about capturing the performance, capturing the magic," Ware said.

Ware said after spending two hours mixing the track, he sent it off to producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange is Switzerland.

The song became an instant No. 1 hit, and it's found on Lady Gaga's Born This Way album.

Ware learned that the album has been nominated for a Grammy last week. And after 30 years of recording and creating music, Ware said this is one of his proudest moments. But he doesn't plan to make any career changes if it wins.

Ware said Lady Gaga was so down to earth, and she even took his feedback and opinions into consideration during the recording.

The Grammy Awards Ceremony is Feb. 12.

Lady Gaga, Madonna, Nicki Minaj Top 2012′s Most Anticipated Albums

The past 12 months have seen the release of monster albums from Adele, Lady Gaga, Drake, Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj.
But the next 12 are promising to bring even more music from several of those artists, plus new albums from Mumford & Sons, Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Linkin Park, Paramore, Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Maroon 5 and Green Day.

It’s a bumper crop of major albums from some of rock, pop and hip-hop’s biggest stars, who are returning from long breaks, hoping to follow up smash debuts or just trying to keep their momentum going.
While release dates are always subject to change, here are some of the most anticipated releases of 2012.

Pop:

Ironically, the status of new albums from the artists whose next moves everyone is most curious about are the ones most in the air. Rihanna tends to deliver a new album every 12 or 13 months, which means that she may have another disc in stores at the end of next year once the just-releasedTalk That Talk has run its course.

On the other hand, Lady Gaga has already begun talking about her follow-up to this year’s Born This Way. Gaga recently told MTV News that she’s already started writing songs and “all the concepts are beginning to flourish and take place.” She didn’t give a potential release date, only promising, “I’ll put it out when it’s done.”

Katy Perry hasn’t publicly spoken about what will come after 2010′s smash Teenage Dream, but it’s possible she could start work on new material in 2012 as well. We know for sure that Justin Bieber is planning to show his more mature side next time around, possibly even incorporating some EDM sounds into the mix.

It’s been confirmed that Madonna hooked up with M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj for the single “Gimme All Your Luvin’ ” from her untitled forthcoming album, which will feature production from Ray of Lightproducer William Orbit.
Other artists who could release fresh material in 2012: No DoubtMaroon 5Avril LavigneMiley CyrusChristina AguileraKe$ha and Nicole Scherzinger.

Hip-Hop:

Two titans of rap are cueing up fresh tracks for early 2012, with Nicki Minaj likely to get out of the gate first with her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, due out on Valentine’s Day. The disc will include first single “Roman in Moscow,” which sees the Best New Artist Grammy nominee getting into the character of her alter ego, Roman Zolanski.

After the delay of God Forgives, I Don’t due to a pair of seizures he suffered in October, Rick Ross is expected to come back strong as well. The Bawse has taken his convalescent time to work on a new track with Jay-Z.

Speaking of Jigga, fans may get a new record from him as well, considering he told MTV News he was cooking up fresh tracks way back when he first played us songs from his Kanye West collaborative album, Watch the Throne. In fact, Jay-Z said you might get solo albums from both men as well as the second Throne release.

Other artists that should have albums hitting stores in 2012: NasFrank OceanSlaughterhouse,Wiz Khalifathe G.O.O.D. Music compilationT.I.Big Sean50 CentLudacrisBig K.R.I.T.,Meek Mill and potentially two discs from Lil WayneI Am Not a Human Being II and Rebirth II.

Rock:

Some of rock’s biggest guns are reloading for 2012, among them Green Day, who debuted some new tracks at a benefit show in August. The title of the follow-up to 2009′s 21st Century Breakdownhasn’t been announced yet, but some of the early songs slated for possible inclusion are “Nuclear Family,” “Carpe Diem” and “Sweet 16.”

U2 have reportedly been cooking up a number of potential new albums, logging sessions with Danger Mouse and working with French producer/DJ David Guetta, RedOne and will.i.am on a disc of dance-oriented tunes.

Prog rock revivalists Muse should also have some new material for us, with bassist Chris Wolstenholme promising in a recent interview that the sound on their sixth album will be “radically different” from 2009′s The Resistance.
We may get something from Linkin Park, who are prepping the follow-up to 2010′s A Thousand Suns, and Mumford & Sons. It’s been two years since the British folk rock revivalists dropped their still strong-selling debut, Sigh No More, and they began giving fans a taste of some new material in the fall when they unveiled the majestic song “Ghosts.”

After a rough year, Paramore have finally put the drama behind them and they’re super-psyched to record an album free of tension and inter-band awkwardness. So far, they’ve already unwrapped the bouncy “Renegade” and “Hello Cold World,” which bode well for their fourth full-length studio album.
Other rock acts slated to release new albums: the reunited SoundgardenFoster the PeopleNeon TreesSleigh BellsSilversun PickupsBruce Springsteen and All-American Rejects.

Lady Gaga’s good deeds

Heavy-hitters like billionaire businessmen Bill Gates and Warren Buffet often take center stage when talk turns to charitable giving, but a new segment of do-gooders has been grabbing headlines: celebrity philanthropists, or "celanthropists".

While actors Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Bono are well-known for their causes, the newest star to emerge in a big way is two-time Grammy-winning musician, singer and creative sartorialist Lady Gaga.

Matthew Bishop, author of "Philanthrocapitalism: How Giving Can Save the World," has named Lady Gaga as one to watch on the charitable scene this year. Her causes include the homeless and youth.

She partnered with Virgin Mobile to offer VIP tickets to her Monster Ball concert for those who volunteer time to those causes, raising $80,000. She has also raised $500,000 for victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
Bishop wrote on his blog that he expects her to step up her charitable efforts this year, supporting causes that are dear to her fans' hearts. That's a smart move.

Putting her star power behind the charities that people with fewer financial resources are passionate about means that she marshals large groups around specific causes, adding up to more bang for the buck.

Bishop's blog names actor Ben Affleck as another one to watch in the coming year and predicts that actor Ashton Kutcher might step up his philanthropy as a means to recover from negative publicity around the breakup of his marriage to Demi Moore.

He also predicts that social media will become a bigger player in philanthropy, giving both the celebrities and the charities welcome and unwelcome publicity.

What do you think about celebrities putting their star power to work in philanthropy?

Lady Gaga's 14-minute music video puzzles, pleases

Lady Gaga made her music video directorial debut with a 14-minute production which was met on Friday with a mix of weariness and adulation by fans and pop culture watchers.

"Marry the Night" -- the fifth single from her "Born This Way" album -- sees the Grammy-winning performance artist making a trip to the hospital, dying her hair mint green, throwing Cheerios over her naked body and hanging upside down in a car -- all in the eight minutes before the song comes in.
Gaga, 25, told E! News that the surreal video, released on Thursday, was a portrait of the day she thought she saw her dreams slipping away from her when she was dropped from her first record label.
It was, she said, "one of the worst days in my life," but added that parts of the video were "meant to be comical."
People magazine called the video "an enigma" and said the autobiographical clip will "certainly leave fans talking, if not scratching their heads."
"AMAZING. Not just a pop singer, she's an artist," wrote Danny on the E! online message boards.
But others were clearly beginning to tire of the outrageous pop star and wondered whether Gaga was losing her touch.
"She has gone from bold to being an exhibitionist. You can't help but wonder if she has gone from a normal person to actually believing she is the persona. Poor girl," wrote Marko on the E! online board.
But Michael Gragg, writing for Britain's Guardian newspaper website, liked the fact that Lady Gaga was "embracing the ridiculous."
"Superstars are at their best when they're simultaneously aware and unaware of their own ridiculousness, and that's what 'Marry the Night' delivers for Lady Gaga. Oh, and the song's pretty good too," Gragg wrote on Friday.
Despite widespread publicity for the music video, and a performance by Lady Gaga of the new song on a Grammy nominations concert on U.S. television on Wednesday, "Marry the Night" has so far failed to catch fire.
On Friday, the song was in 38th place on the U.S. iTunes singles charts.
"I think she needs to do more editing of her creative ideas and songs ... If she gets too difficult to relate to she'll lose her fans by losing sight of the reasons they love her: fantasy, escape and her ideas about relationships, love and hard work," wrote Dragnfly on the People.com comments page.

Lady Gaga on Heartbreak That Inspired "Marry the Night": "It Was One of the Worst Days of My Life"

Lady Gaga is nothing if not a storyteller. And this particular musical yarn may be her best yet. At the very least, it's her most personal.
E! News not only has the exclusive premiere of Gaga's "Marry the Night" music video, but sat down with Mother Monster herself to get the artist's own take on this 13-minute autobiographical opus.
"It was one of the worst days of my life and it happened quite quickly, but in my mind, when I think back on that period of my life, it all happened very slow."
And now, Little Monsters, she's sharing that day with us all.

Gaga explained that the video is a rendering of the day she thought she saw her dreams slipping away from her—when she was dropped from her first label, Island Def Jam.
"It is my personal way of seeing things," she said. "If you give up after something like that, you were never destined to be an entertainer."
As for what, exactly, she means by "Marry the Night," loyal fans already know that it's a love song of sorts to New York City. But the video is more than that—about marrying, as it were, your own personal obstacles.
"In order to be great writing music," or whatever else it is someone wants to do, she said, "you have to acknowledge what is wrong with your work, or what is dishonest about it. What have I not been really great at?"
We'll assume that's a rhetorical question, since we'd be hard-pressed to find any faults with Gaga's ever-growing oeuvre. So what does Gaga find to be her biggest obstacle?

"I don't know, I don't have an answer to that question. I love the obstacles. To marry your obstacles mean I, the artist, wholeheartedly accept everything you throw at me, I am destined to struggle, I am destined to write music about the struggle, and I accept it willingly."
One thing that's obviously not an obstacle to this bare-all artiste is her well-toned bod, which gets some ample showing-off time in her new video. And not just skin for skin's sake; those dramatic, intense nude scenes, she says, were the most real.

"Well, I was naked in real life when it happened," she said, referring to the moment she found out she'd been dropped. "That's probably the most honest moment in that video of everything I've ever done. My directorial decision was for them to just f--king roll the cameras, because I couldn't go in and out of the moment.
"I wonder if I will actually release that scene in its entirety—it's about 30 minutes long."
As for the intense aesthetic of the video, Gaga said, "It was intensely important to me that it was not too beautiful. It was an incredible experience. It was amazing. It was absolutely amazing."
And as for her solo creative direction efforts? How'd that go?

Despite her recent amicable parting of ways with longtime collaborator Laurieann Gibson, it was creative business as usual on the shoot.
"I have always been the creative director, and the House of Gaga has always been the creative force behind what we've done. There really aren't many tremendous changes.
"I know it's my directorial debut, but I've really created everything I've ever done in my career. I really didn't do anything differently on this video that I didn't do on the 'Telephone' video or the 'Paparazzi' video or the 'Bad Romance' video.
"I hope my fans will take from this the progression that you have to trust yourself to make mistakes."
And not to take yourself too seriously.

Intense though the video is, it isn't without its levity.
"I always believe that you walk the line of humor if you're being so incredibly serious," she explained. "There's something quite comical about the opening of the video, even though it's quite sinister and dark."
Indeed, the opening, nonmusical minutes of the video bring the laughs, some of which are even at the expense of—gasp!—fashion.
"It's meant to be comical," she said, adding that fashion serves as a metaphor in the video. And that the video itself serves as a window into the heart and mind of Gaga.
"In essence, it's insight into my entire creative process and the way that I view things."
Intrigued? You should be.
Now that you know the story behind it, check out E!'s exclusive premiere of "Marry the Night."
