Lady Gaga‘s entire ‘Born This Way’ album has a lot of ’90s influences, but you haven’t heard them like this before. A Cash Cash remix surfaced of Mother Monster’s latest hit, ‘Marry the Night,’ that evokes memories of ‘Saved by the Bell,’ Walkmans and roller blades.
The five-minute remix seamlessly pairs Gaga’s searing vocals with a ’90s dance beat in the intro. The track then gives way to keyboards and hand claps befitting of the same era.
Then it gets really interesting. Dance samples a la the ’90s are mixed in with Gaga’s passionate chorus, creating an exponentially more nostalgic feel as the song continues. The mash up mix begins with Living Joy’s ‘Dreamer’ — a great fit for the original video’s theme of Gaga chasing her dream when her label dropped her. The track then eases its way into Corona’s ‘Rhythm of the Night,’ still incorporating the chorus from ‘Dreamer,’ while Technotronic’s ‘Pump Up the Jam’ makes a cameo later on.
Though many of the Littlest Monsters won’t necessarily recognize the samples, they should still be able to appreciate Gaga in a fresh way. Take a listen to the track below — if you love it as much as we do, you can download it here.
